In the closest Business Community Cup game yet, the Business Allstars ran out victors thanks to 2 penalty saves from veteran keeper Steve Teasdale. The match winning save, clawing the ball past the post from distraught Ryan Ambler.
After 90 minutes of end to end football the 2 teams couldn’t be separated at 3 all. The game was played at a high standard throughout with both teams determined to try and keep the ball on the floor.
Club Doncaster’s Jon Warburton picked up an injury in the first 2 minutes which resulted in an early substitution for the Business Allstars. The change of personnel didn’t seem to affect the Allstars as Dan Herring put them into the lead on 14 minutes. The Business Allstars Captain had been seeing a lot of the ball in the first part of the game and his efforts were rewarded with a powerful shot past the keeper.
The Commercial Legends picked themselves up from this early setback and got themselves not only back on level terms through Liam Jones put in front through their Captain James Sharp.
Things went bad to worse for the Business Allstars as just before half time Dan Herring was poleaxed when he tried to run through rather than round Legends defender Ryan Davis. With the colour drained from his face he and the rest of the team were relieved when the half time whistle went.
Whatever was said by Business Allstars manager Tim Ryan at half time did the trick as the team came out, heads held high and motivated for the second half. Slowly they began to take control of the game but not before the Legends lost a player in Josh Temperton after trying to control the ball in a rather sensitive area. An immediate attack from the Legends straight after, led to a simple chance for Steve Kendell only for him to take his eye of the ball and the chance went begging.
This escape further lifted the Allstars and Brian Butcher put them back on level terms. The cagey affair became a little scrappy only for salmon booted Haydn Cahill to put the Allstars back in the lead with only 8 minutes left on the clock.
As the Legends pushed further forward for a goal the Allstars found themselves on the back foot after a delightful ball from Oliver Temperton to Ryan Ambler led to Dean Wiffen firing in an equalizer with less than 2 minutes on the clock.
That is how the game ended on 90 minutes 3-3 resulting in penalties and Steve Teasdale becoming the hero and saving 2 penalties and writing his name into folklore of the Crown Hotel Business Community Cup Winners.
“The Business Community Cup has been a great event from the training and friendships these players have made to knowing we are going to raise thousands for local charity. Seeing so many people turn out to support our players is fantastic and the players and the charities appreciate it so much.”
