Business led charity Doncaster Business for the Community (DB4C), will kick off the New Year with a new inter-company 5-a-Side football festival “The Westfield Health Doncaster Business Shield” to raise money for local charities Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust, St. John’s Hospice and Pride of the Isle.

Last year saw the first such event as the two teams, The Business All Stars and The Commercial Legends, competed for the trophy with players drawn from businesses across Doncaster and watched by hundreds of supporters.

In a new and exciting development the teams will be managed by two former Doncaster Rovers legends, Tim Ryan and Jan Budtz, and will involve two squads of 18 players who will contest the Cup over 90 minutes with penalties being the decider should the scores be level at full time.

Each player has enjoyed a truly professional footballer experience from training, under the guidance of coaches from Doncaster Rovers FC, which started at the end of February, to a unique transfer window through to a pre-match training game to be held at Doncaster Rovers Cantley Training Ground.

This year is also more than just a game for fans, with entertainment for the family with chance to Meet Donny Dog, a kids penalty shoot competition and also live music from local indie rock and roll band “The Outcharms” will be playing a setlist before kick off on the pitch.

After releasing latest single “Talk” they have thousands of monthly listeners and regular sell out venues wherever they play. When asked to be involved a spokesman for the band said, “It’s an honour to be able to support the Doncaster Business Community Cup and its associated charities.”

The festival, which will be held at the Dome Leisure Centre on the evening of Wednesday 7th February, will be organised and operated in conjunction with DB4C’s key partner Club Doncaster Foundation, who will be working closely with DB4C through this and other events to create and deliver a festival of football for the business community during the course of 2018.

Local businesses are being encouraged to register early as the 16 team event is certain to sell out early with 5 teams already confirmed.  And in what will be a first for the town, there will be a 4 team Women’s 5-a-Side tournament running alongside the men’s competition and a chance for families to be involved in the evening with a series of supporting challenges and competitions.  And as if that was not enough, Donny Dog will be on hand to lead the support on the evening!

DB4C Trustee and Football Task Team Chair, Anthony Temperton said “Its great we have got an event on in February that does not just raise much needed funds for 3 great local charities but it also helps people keep their New Year’s fitness resolution from failing.  With the support of our event sponsors, Westfield Health, we can help promote health and well being for 2018”.

Jim Lord, CEO of Club Doncaster Foundation added: “Club Doncaster Foundation are delighted to be supporting DB4C in delivering a Football Festival for businesses in 2018.  There is great synergy between our Foundation and this new business led charity.  Our aim is to improve lives across all our communities and with this in mind we are determined to add value to this and other DB4C events being planned over the coming months.  What a great way to maintain those New Year resolutions!  I urge local businesses to enter a team, support the local charities and also be a part of the other DB4C events taking place during the course of 2018.”

“Westfield Health is delighted to be sponsoring the ‘Doncaster Business Shield’ football tournament, which provides a great opportunity for the business community to get active and raise money for local charities. We are passionate about helping people to lead healthy and happy lives for longer and being active and competing as part of a team is a fantastic way to boost health and wellbeing and we encourage local businesses to get involved”

Angela Bullivant, CSR Executive of Westfield Health, headline sponsor and strategic partner

The cost of registration is £350 for a team squad of 7 which includes the presentation and supper along with the chance to lift the coveted “Westfield Health Doncaster Business Shield” and the bragging rights for the best business men’s and women’s 5-a-Side teams in Doncaster.
